The Revolution Diaries part 40

This week started off with an attack on my confidence. About a week ago I was pleased to find that my sixth novel, Scorched Earth: Arrival, had been rated five stars on Amazon, but then fast forward to the beginning of this week and I was shocked to see that the reader had seemed to have changed their mind and had now rated it two stars. As you can imagine, my confidence was shaken, and I spent most of the week doubting myself. While I did push through working on Scorched Earth: Revolution, the final book of the Scorched Earth trilogy, I did so with less enthusiasm than I’d had previously, while constantly questioning myself, convinced that I’d failed. However! A few days later after looking at the Amazon book page again, I discovered while it seemed to say two stars, it was actually still five stars and there was a concise, but pleasing review to go with it! With that pressure off my mind, I ploughed back into my work for the day.

Despite feeling low this week, having completed chapter twenty-three last week, I jumped over to chapter thirty-four, since the chapters in between are already finished. Once that chapter was done, it was onto chapter thirty-five where I continued to plant seeds for a future story and build on a couple of characters who will feature in said story. After that, I began work on chapter thirty-six to end the writing for the week. I was pleasantly surprised to realize that despite my self-doubt I was still able to do three chapters and a bit this week, leaving me two chapters and a half to complete before the first half of the book is done. I’m hoping to have all that finished by next weekend at the latest so that I can begin the final editing of the first forty chapters while moving on to the second half of the book.

  1. It’s best to just keep on keeping on, Paul… I say that a lot!🙂
I very rarely give feedback, I don’t know if it’s the same where you are, but here I can’t do anything or go anywhere without being asked for my opinion or how I think the company is doing (if they don’t know that, they shouldn’t be doing it in the first place 😀 – that’s my opinion!), so the whole feedback giving thing, to me, is a bit pointless.
Now, that said, I’ve read a few of your books, and enjoyed them immensely, and I’m looking forward to this next book. You may notice I’m not giving any stars here, but you don’t need them – you have your own Universe full of them behind you already!
Like I say… keep on keeping on! 😁

  2. That’s the ticket, young man! Even when you’re feeling low on confidence, keep going. Your confidence will reappear soon enough when you realise what a good job you’re doing with building your story.
